Collabs and Cats and Corn, Oh My!

Good Slidings - July 2025

Whew, another scorcher! 🔥

It’s been a little over a year since my husband Ro and I moved to the Pacific Northwest, and we’re still getting used to some big changes here. We knew about the rain, of course; the lack of air-conditioning in many homes is a challenge we were (mostly) prepared to face. What we weren’t expecting, though, was how busy we would get!

From lectures and shows to friends and games—and everything in-between—let’s get you caught up, .

PUSHING THE LIMITS WITH AN ORIGINAL EP

If you’ve been following my music on streaming services or Bandcamp, you may know that I already released an original song for the very first time a couple of years ago, titled “Get Good.” It was a huge deal for me, and it was pretty vulnerable too—will anyone actually identify with the lyrics? Can people jam to it? Will it all make sense? Is it memorable?

As someone who has primarily released cover versions of songs, I also have had a lot of questions about my validity as a musician and a creator. Where does the cover stop and the original begin? Where does musical “brilliance” even come from? Does it matter?

And with those questions permeating my mind, I started writing.

What was I writing? I don’t really know. But I knew I wanted to have something. Something that was mine, and mine alone.

In a world of creators, it can be extremely hard to separate yourself from the sea of talent around you; oftentimes, your friends’ success can feel bittersweet because it seems like success in this field is so…personal. I wanted to make something to say “Hey, I’m here creating when I want to, and how I want to. So here you go—listen if you want!”

This EP (extended play, which is a shorter release of about 25 minutes and 5 or so songs) has been slowly waiting to be released for, I believe, over two years. I’m getting really excited to share more, and I hope you are too.

Get ready for Aoëde Hums, coming this fall.

COLLABORATION ROUND-UP

Here are some of the collaboration projects I’ve joined in on so far this year!

HAZY MAZE CAVE

After years of enjoying his music, I finally got to join a track by my friend AcappellaVGM. I’m very proud of my additions on this one, including the solo!

Fun fact: I played all of this on my King 3B trombone, which I’ve had since middle school!

BLUEY

I had a powerhouse of trombonists come together to recreate the Bluey theme song. It’s loved by Faye, the daughter of a friend of mine, and she’s still battling leukemia. Feel free to donate to American Red Cross, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or Seattle Children’s to help out.

ARMATURE

I got to add some horns to really flesh out “Say You Wanna Live,” currently a fan favorite; I also joined the choir in “Whale Lord.”

Armature is a thoughtful math rock with some really delicate moments and powerful themes. Listen to the album here.

I’M…SINGING CORN??

In some very exciting news, a project I was able to be a part of finally released in March, called “PBJ - The Musical.” It’s an iPhone/iPad game…or is it?

Really, it’s an artful (and delicious) retelling of the classic tragedy Romeo and Juliet. This time, Romeo is…well, a peanut learning about his place in the world, and Juliet is a small strawberry with big dreams. It’s wacky, wild, and weird—all the classic trademarks of the game’s creator, Philipp Stollenmayer.

You can listen to the original song, and then hear my Americana version!

Yes, that corn is me.

I got to make a remix of “When I Grow Up,” which is the very first track in the game! It’s originally a “Beatles-esque ballad”—those are the words of Lorraine Bowen, who composed the music for the project. You might know her as “The Crumble Lady,” but I know her as a very lovely human and a new friend!

This Month’s Video Pick:

“Other Friends” from Steven Universe: The Movie is my love letter to electro swing: vintage music set to a dance beat! I tried a little of everything here, and I had a blast. This lyric video took two years, and the characters are hand-animated!

Garfield, cat

Time for a quick Garfield update!

Garfy is quickly entering his senior years at 10 years old, but he’s living his best life so far! He loves watching the crows and neighbors on a walk, and he has about five nap zones in rotation. Of course, his favorite hobby is waiting in front of his auto feeder for way too long, but who are we to judge?

Garfy, in his most glorious state.

That’s it for now! 🎉

I really hope you’ve enjoyed looking through some things I have going on, ! I’m excited to share more soon, but you’re always welcome to say hello or ask questions any time. I hope to hear from you soon, and take care!
